Interview with Dr. Robinson

With medical experience spanning the states of Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, and Texas, as well as South Korea, our new dermatologist is well-traveled and extensively experienced in diagnosing and treating both benign and malignant skin conditions. Carolyn A. Robinson, DO, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. She also loves building furniture and singing karaoke. In our interview with Dr. Robinson, you’ll learn what drives her professionally and personally.

Question: Tell us a little about your role with Texas Dermatology. What was the inspiration behind developing a career in dermatology?

Dr. Robinson: I wanted to become a doctor from a very young age, and I was always fascinated by procedures. I really enjoyed going to see my pediatrician and dermatologist growing up! I became specifically interested in dermatology because you can see patients of all ages, both male and female, and can practice medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology at the same time.

Question: What would you consider your most significant career impact?

Dr. Robinson: A major reason why I chose to go to medical school in Florida is because my only family member who is a physician, a cousin, lives there. He was instrumental in helping me get the chance to shadow dermatology clinicians. During my last two years of medical school, I was lucky enough to get the chance to live with him and his wife. I absolutely credit him with being the most influential mentor I have had in my career.

Question: What is one work-related goal you want to accomplish this year?

Dr. Robinson: I am often working on multiple research projects or manuscripts at once. I have an ongoing goal to have at least one of them published on an annual basis.

Question: What is your favorite holiday?

Dr. Robinson: Christmas! My family tries to be together as much as possible and we share special meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.

Question: If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Dr. Robinson: Definitely pasta with tomato sauce- so simple and so good!

Question: What do you wish more individuals knew about dermatology and how they can benefit from it?

Dr. Robinson: Everyone regardless of age can benefit from the expertise of a dermatologist. Even if you are lucky enough not to have a dermatologic problem, we can still help guide you to keep your skin healthy and looking its best!
