WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?

Spider veins are dilated blood vessels that appear near the surface of the skin as small red lines. Also called varicose veins, spider angiomas and several other names, spider veins often form branched clusters that become more noticeable and unsightly. Frequently occurring on the legs, spider veins can also affect the face and other parts of the body.

CAUSES OF SPIDER VEINS

Varicose veins are caused by a weakening in a vessel wall, leading to the appearance of spider veins. Heredity, injuries, poor circulation, aging and sun exposure are just some of the factors linked to spider veins. They tend to form during pregnancy, hormonal changes and weight gain. In rarer cases, spider veins are a symptom of a vein disorder or other illness.

LASER VEIN REMOVAL

Spider veins are often treated for aesthetic purposes, or because they are causing pain. Laser treatments have been shown to be very effective for removing or fading spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Laser vein removal is often preferred for avoiding the needle injections required with sclerotherapy. With laser spider vein removal, pulses of focused light from a laser are used heal and shrink the blood vessels.
