Removing Scars with Laser Treatment
Our skilled dermatologists can help you get rid of acne scars and other type of scars.
How do Scars Form?
Scars form after a deep tissue wound, due to an irregular pattern of growth in collagen fibers. This irregularity causes a scar to differ in appearance from the surrounding skin. Although minor scars can fade over time, often a scar will remain for several years or longer.
Types of Scars
Laser therapy is effective at treating different types of scars, such as hypertrophic scars, keloid scars and atrophic scars. Usually raised and thickened, hypertrophic scars are the most common type of scar. A type of scar that spreads beyond the size of the wound it was caused by, keloid scars worsen over time if not treated. Atrophic scars are indented pockets of skin, rather than raised. Commonly caused by acne, atrophic scars can also be caused by injuries or disease.
Benefits of Laser Scar Removal
Laser scar removal is often recommended for healing scars from injuries and for acne scar treatment. Laser light beams promote the regrowth of healthy tissues and collagen, while also reducing the appearance of scars. A combination of lasers can be used to restore pigmentation, flatten or smooth bumps, and reduce itching and burning. Laser treatments for scars also help to prevent scars from reforming.
