Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum
Warts and molluscum contagiosum are two different skin conditions that have several things in common. Both cause bumps to appear anywhere on the body, however bumps from molluscum contagiosum have a pit in the center. Molluscum contagiosum also spreads more easily than warts do, as it is very contagious through touching and the sharing of various personal items. Touching or scratching the bumps can also cause it to spread to different parts of the body.
Cause and Treatment
Warts and molluscum contagiosum are also both caused by a virus. They are more common in children than adults. The bumps caused by both of these conditions will eventually go away without treatment, however they can take years to heal on their own. Removal of the bumps is recommended to prevent spreading, inflammation, infection and other complications. In certain cases, surgical removal is the best option.
