PRP HAIR RESTORATION IN SAN ANTONIO, TX

Thinning hair and hair loss is a cosmetic frustration for both men and women. In fact, studies show 50 million men and 30 million women suffer from thinning hair and baldness. Losing hair can be all-consuming and wreak havoc on self-esteem and self-confidence in every aspect of life. Not to mention, it can be hard to identify the underlying reason, so there is no immediate solution, which only serves to increase feelings of stress and anxiety. At Texas Dermatology, we are proud to offer PRP and PRF hair restoration.

What Causes Hair Loss?

People suffer from hair loss or thinning hair for various reasons, including stress, hormonal fluctuations, genetics, natural aging, or even accidents. Some people experience hair loss or increased shedding after major surgeries or traumatic life events. Illnesses and vitamin and nutrient deficiencies can also contribute to hair loss.

In men, male pattern baldness is a common reason for hair loss. It is the result of genetics or a family history of baldness. It is also known as androgenetic alopecia. This type of hair loss is defined by the pattern of hair thinning and loss that starts above the temples and thins out near the top of the head.

Although women do not typically go completely bald, they can experience thinning, brittle hair that breaks easily and sheds more than usual. For example, after pregnancy or menopause, women may notice more shedding or thinning hair due to shifts in hormones. In women, triggers can also be from things like thyroid problems or other imbalances in the body that occur as we age.

What Is Hair Restoration?

Today, the term “hair restoration” has become a catch-all for any and all types of procedures that can restore hair fullness and ease the look of thinning hair. From surgical hair transplants to less-invasive follicular unit extraction (FUE) to PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections and PRF (platelet rich fibrin) to prescription medications and topical treatments.

Potential Benefits of This Treatment

PRP Hair Restoration

PRP hair restoration is a safe, effective, non-surgical medical treatment that treats thinning hair using the growth factors in a person’s own blood to help restore hair. The organic growth factors that exist in your blood are called platelet-rich plasma and it is the liquid that moves red blood cells through the body. By increasing the blood supply to the hair follicle and nourishing it with PRP, the body naturally triggers the hair growth process.
Within two weeks of the treatment, there is usually enhanced thickness at the hair shaft. About three to six months after the initial treatment, measurable results are more visible and hair growth continues. Overall, PRP is a highly effective treatment for hair loss and our PRP hair restoration clients at Texas Dermatology are thrilled with their results.

PRF Hair Restoration

PRF hair restoration is an innovative treatment that uses the patient’s own blood to stimulate natural hair regrowth and improve scalp health. Unlike traditional PRP therapy, PRF contains a higher concentration of platelets, fibrin and growth factors, which support the body’s healing and regenerative processes. To create PRF, a small amount of blood is drawn and spun at a low speed in a centrifuge, which preserves and concentrates these vital components without additives or anticoagulants.
The PRF is then injected into the scalp, where it releases growth factors. Over time, PRF injections can help promote thicker, healthier hair, restore confidence, and slow down hair loss by strengthening existing hair follicles and stimulating new growth.

FAQs

What Is The Recovery Like After Hair Restoration?
There is minimal downtime after these hair restoration sessions, which is one of the reasons they are popular hair loss treatments. Recovery guidelines include things like not wetting your hair or using hair products for at least 6 hours after a session, using a pH balanced shampoo for 3 days and avoiding saunas, steam rooms, swimming, vigorous exercise and sun or heat exposure for a few days to ensure lasting results.
Am I A Good Candidate?
Most men and women are good candidates for hair restoration at Texas Dermatology. It is a non-invasive procedure aside from having blood drawn to obtain the PRP. During your initial consultation, you must disclose all your medications, including supplements and herbs. Heavy smokers are not ideal for both treatments. Water hydration is important, and coffee and alcohol should be avoided.
How Does PRP Work?
PRP uses a concentrated form of your own blood's platelets to stimulate hair growth and improve hair density. The process begins by drawing a small amount of your blood. Our certified physician and aesthetic experts use a machine (centrifuge) to separate the plasma from the blood. The resulting PRP, rich in growth factors, is then carefully extracted and prepared for injection.
