Dr. Rodrigo Valdes Rodriguez is a highly skilled and internationally trained dermatologist with an academic background and a multitude of professional experiences that span across Mexico and the United States. We are proud to welcome Dr. Valdes to our Texas Dermatology family.
Dr. Valdes began his medical journey at Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila, School of Medicine in Mexico, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003. In 2007, Dr. Valdes embarked on a journey that would lead him across the border to the United States. He participated in the Observership Program in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida before moving to New York, where he completed his first year of Internal Medicine Residency.
Dr. Valdes returned to Mexico to complete his first year of Internal Medicine Residency at Hospital Universitario de Torreón, Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, School of Medicine. Following this, he completed his Dermatology Residency at Hospital Central “Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto”, Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosi, and became a certified dermatologist in Mexico in 2013.
In 2013, he moved to Philadelphia to join the Department of Dermatology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University, where he completed another residency in Dermatology. He subsequently pursued a Dermatopathology Fellowship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, earning his American Board of Dermatopathology Certification in 2020.
Dr. Valdes’s academic career is marked by various prestigious roles. He served as an Assistant Professor in Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science and later at the University of Florida. Today, he continues his professional journey at Texas Dermatology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Valdes has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to his patients and the field of dermatology. He holds certifications from the Mexican Board of Dermatology, the American Board of Dermatology, and the American Board of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Valdes has a strong research interest in pruritus (itch), chronic skin conditions, and novel therapeutic interventions for these conditions. His significant contributions in these areas have been acknowledged through numerous publications in high-impact scientific journals.
In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Valdes has played an important part in the academic sphere, mentoring the next generation of dermatologists and healthcare professionals.
