TREATMENTS FOR ACNE
Our board certified dermatologists provide acne treatments for patients of all ages and skin types.
ACNE BASICS
Although it is known to be most prevalent during the teenage years, patients of all ages have problems with acne. It is also common among women who are pregnant or going through hormonal changes. Excess oil or sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands as the hormone levels fluctuate, and causing the pores to become blocked. As sebum becomes trapped in the pores, bacteria on the skin may also invade the pores, leading to the formation of pimples. Skin irritants, genetics, and a variety of other factors also contribute to acne.
ACNE EFFECTS
Acne breakouts typically occur on the face, but are also common on the back, neck, shoulders, and other parts of the body. The redness, swelling, inflammation, and pain caused by pimples is bothersome for many patients. Breakouts are associated with emotional distress and embarrassment, particularly with teens. Scarring is also a concern with severe breakouts, and another reason why aggressive acne treatment may be needed.
