LASER REMOVAL OF WARTS

The dermatologists at Texas Dermatology and Laser Specialists can help you with laser wart removal.

WHAT IS A WART?

A wart is a formation of hardened skin that can vary in color, shape and size. Most warts do not cause pain, unless they are on the feet or other areas where pressure is placed. They may burn or itch if irritated. Warts will sometimes go away on their own within a few months, however they can also persist for years if not treated.

CAUSES OF WARTS

Warts are linked to the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is contagious through direct and indirect contact. If it is not attacked by the immune system, the HPV virus causes skin cells to multiply more quickly, which causes warts to form. Warts are more common among school aged children than adults, as HPV infections can occur through moist, cracked or damaged skin.

COMMON TYPES OF WARTS

There are a number different kinds of warts, with several varieties that are more prevalent. Plantar warts grow into a hard thick callous on the bottom of the feet, which can cause pain while standing or walking. Flat warts are also called “juvenile warts,” as they most frequently affect children. They can occur in very large clusters, and usually form on the face or legs. Flat warts are only slightly raised, with a color that ranges from light brown, to pink or skin colored. Common warts are another type of wart that usually develops on the hands, but may also form on other areas of the body. They are usually grayish-brown, and may have black specks in them.

LASER WART REMOVAL

When performed by a professional dermatologist, laser removal of warts is safe, efficient and fast. The procedure is usually painless, with side effects that are rare and minimal. Laser wart treatment also helps to prevent the recurrence of warts, as they often return with other treatment methods.
